Hello!!
What a great resource this is!! My name is Lynne Menechella and I teach at Horseheads Middle School in upstate NY. I begin my day with either 5th or 6th graders doing math enrichment and the rest of my day is spent with 7th graders doing math remediation ~~ both ends of the support spectrum (o: I am very interested in differentiation and brain-compatible teaching ideas. I am looking forward to networking and sharing ideas with all of you....

We've had three Tech Talks so far - one on Interactive Notebooks, Moodle, and Digital Storytelling. You can get to the recordings of those by clicking on the Web Archive link.
You can see all our upcoming events by clicking on the Events tab. The next TechTalk topic is Using Wikis. We've got lots more topics to cover in the next few months - technology, pedagogy, content knowledge, all sorts of fun stuff!
I also wanted to point out that a new group has started that you might be interested in - Literacy in the Content Areas.

- If you have a chance to participate in one of his workshops, do! He is very down-to-earth. Full of practical, insightful strategies for differentiation from his own classroom experience. We belong to the New England League of Middle Schools since I find they are much more active in providing excellent professional development than NYS Middle Schools Association. New England has had Rick regularly for the last couple of years for different workshops and their conference.

- Read Tomlinson and all of Rick's work and been to a couple of his workshops. Just love him. I've been doing some differentiation hit and miss over the past couple of years, incorporating bits and pieces. My goal for next year is to develop a unit for each of my classes.

- Hi Lynne - I have a question for you. We've been wondering how different 5th grade teachers and from 8th grade teachers in terms of their use of technology (among other things). Since you teach across the gamut - are their differences and if there are, is it possibly correlated with how the teacher is licensed - elementary vs secondary? We are trying to figure out the needs of the community and wondered if we should differentiate between maybe 5-6 and 7-8. Thanks for your help! Kim
