What research exists on providing a daily or every-other-day period for students to read self-selected books. 

 

At Mechanicsburg Middle School, we have had many discussions on increasing student literacy and engagement in reading.  I've read in a number of articles that this practice of setting aside time for students to read and engage in literature can be one of the most valuable experiences,  but I know of no research to support the call for change.
