Using Pinterest in Math and Science

An article about teachers using Pinterest was published in T.H.E. this week (Pinning Down the Cloud) and I thought we might get a conversation going about how we are using Pinterest. I would love to see MSP2 members Pinterest boards - and maybe even start following them!

This is how we are using Pinterest for another one of my projects - Beyond Penguins and Polar Bears: Integrating Science and Literacy i.... We needed a photo gallery for a couple of the activities that we developed and decided to use Pinterest. We have multiple boards that cover everything from Polar Invertebrates to Polar Researchers. Hi, Kim -

I profess to be overwhelmed.  I teach resource math to 9th graders and am just beginning my digital learning (even though I am 56) and would like to become more creative in my classroom.  I have begun creating an Edmodo site for my math students, but have absolutely no idea how to set up and use Pinterest in my math class.  I will try to start playing with it this weekend and appreciate any suggestions!  the scope of your project with your students looks very expansive.  very cool.

Hi Becky - I think it is great that you are setting up an Edmodo site! I think the key to using technology is to not pick a technology and try to use it - but to figure out something you want students to do/know and then see if there is a technology that will make the process more engaging and meaningful. I really like Andrew Churches' integration of Bloom's taxonomy and the digital world to develop Bloom's Digital Taxonomy - http://edorigami.wikispaces.com/Bloom%27s+Digital+Taxonomy. Kathy Schrock took Bloom's Digital Taxonomy and associated Google tools, apps, and other digital tools that support the different levels of learning in her Blooming Apps site. For instance, if you want to students to create something to provide evidence of their understanding - students could use Google sites, Prezi, or maybe even Pinterest! Hope this helps - Kim
