Middle School Portal

the network for middle school math and science teachers

Presented by Davilla Riddle and Rebecca Lawson

Description
:  The world becomes a smaller place if you can expand your classroom
beyond its walls and location.  Purposefully used, virtual fieldtrips can enhance learning and support content mastery.  This forum provides an area to expand teaching strategies by incorporating digital technology to explore the world, inquire about big ideas, and create authentic experiences.  See examples of virtual fieldtrips around STEM concepts.  In addition, learn about tools used to create your own virtual journeys and how to access resources for established fieldtrips.

Bios: Davilla Riddle teaches 8th grade science in Hawaii.  She supports STEM education on Middle School Portal 2 (MPS2) as a Teacher Leader. Davilla works with several groups (i.e., Hawaii Science Teachers Association, Maui Economic Development Board and Hawaii Department of Education) to engage educators, create and facilitate online learning, and provide professional development opportunities on integrating digital tools in the classroom.  Davilla holds an M.S. in Natural Resources Development.  She is currently working on a Master’s in Educational Technology.

Rebecca is a National Board Certified Teacher who recently retired after teaching young adolescents for 35 years.  She has served as technology teacher and/or technology coordinator in her schools for twenty years.  Rebecca's focus has been on integrating technology into the core academic areas and encouraging colleagues to "teach differently" using technology as a tool for learning.  Currently, Rebecca teaches students in an alternative school and supervises student interns for Winthrop
University.
